1.OTON GLASS, the wearable device for people who have difficulty in reading.
2.My motivation for this device was my father’s suffer from dyslexia. Two years ago, my father was hospitalized due to a stroke, and he became dyslexic. But now, he is recovering. He can read and write most words, but it is difficult for him to read small characters, such as those in the newspaper.
3.That is why, I decided to invent this device for my father. Including myself, there are a total of four members on the team. I’m good at human-centered design and am currently studying at IAMAS (IAMAS is a graduate university that does research on media art). Arata Shimizu is studying leading product design and interface design at Tokyo Metropolitan University. Arata and I are first year graduate students. Naoya Miyamoto and Kosuke Yamagishi are engineers who finished the Master’s course at the Tokyo Institute of Technology this year. Now they each have jobs at a company, so they are helping to develop OTON GLASS on their days off. These are our members.
4.We knew that there are many dyslexic people in this world. So our goal is to deploy OTON GLASS for them. Here we will express the world realized by OTON GLASS.
6.We have done user tests with dyslexics who belong to an NPO. We developed this prototype solely for user tests, so its function quality is currently not very good. We can only use it in a limited environment.
The vision for OTON GLASS has two points. First, it should be natural and adapt to our lives. Second, it should only have sound feedback. I think a user’s eyes will become tired if they were to use display feedback everyday.
7.People read and their world becomes bigger.
This is OTON GLASS, thank you for listening.
