MEC 100 INTRODUCTION TO ENGINEERING & PROBLEM SOLVING Mini Project Straw Bridge
Objective Students will be able to • To apply design process in product development. • To use computer software in written report and presentation. • To express the task in a systematic manner. • Plan/ design/ build and test a model truss bridge. • Identify several factors that engineers consider when designing bridges.
Brief Actually there are several types of bridge in this world. Such as :
Literature Survey/ Collecting Information Two important forces dealt by all bridges: • Compression is a force that acts to compress or shorten the thing it is acting on. • Tension is a force that acts to expand or lengthen the thing it is acting on. When something pushes down on the beam, the beam bends. Its top edge is pushed together, and its bottom edge is pulled apart.
Act of the compression and tension to bridge due to the load
Idea Based on our research, there are several things we can do to increase the strength of our bridge. Some of them are: Stiffen the base with an open truss. Make the bridge narrower.
