This presentation looks at a way of applying technologies that were developed for datacenter SDN to carrier networks for delivery of VPN services.
SDN has meant many things to many people but often struggled to demonstrate value or a truly useful new way of working.
This approach to VPN delivery takes an overlay networking approach which allows for an all-IP underlay network following the principle of "smart edge dumb core" to offer end-to-end overlay VPNs. This is an interesting new architecture for service providers and enterprise networks alike that want to reduce complexity in the network and adopt a new way of working.
The basis of this presentation is how BGP-EVPN and VXLAN can be deployed in an overlay model, and will give examples of how a new CPE can be built that is the origin of the VPN service; how it can leverage service chaining and other capabilities that many service providers are interested in; including some open source projects that can be used for building an inexpensive high performance CPE.
