The trend of real time sharing • In 2011, “twitter” overtook “mixi” in the number of users. – mixi is the most famous Social Networking Service (SNS) in Japan • mixi was released in 2004. • Users of mixi keep diary and leave comments on their friend’s diary. – is a microblogging service, enabling its users to send and read messages called tweets. • Tweets are text-based posts of up to 140 characters. • A lot of people share their “now” by using social media.

The features of shared contents • You can easily broadcast video live to the world by using “Ustream” or “Nico Nico Live”. • In Japan, many kinds of video live is broadcast every day. – Academic conferences – Study meeting – Budget-screening sessions（事業仕分け） – All day of Baseball Camps – “Sumo” practice – Unlimited Streaming of one’s life (Dadamore)

What is Social Reading?
In Workshop • = “Share Reading” (In Japan) • “Exciting to share the experience of reading with total strangers.” • But “Discouraging when no one responds to my tweet.”
For Education • For Teenagers Social reading is not good for them. • For College and University students Social Reading has many possibilities for higher education. One of such possibilities is the use of social reading in reading clubs. • So we held a reading club of “Book Busines 2.0” using social reading.
Possibilities of Social Reading for Reading Club • Advantages You don’t have to mind: –Time –Place → Easier to join the reading club
Two features • Possibilities in terms of space –Physical and psychological distances → Global Communication • Possibilities in terms of time –Synchronous and asynchronous reading
