My name is Alec MacLean and I am 21 years old. I have completed my studies in Yacht and Powercraft Design in June 2016, and have graduated with a 1st class degree. I am interested in all components of yacht and component design, specifically mechanical engineering and design, concept testing and naval architecture. I am also interested in all components of mechanical and structural engineering. When it comes to work, I am driven to reach the best level I can and will always give 100% to any task delegated to me.
Period September 2013 – June 2016 University Southampton Solent University Title Yacht and Powercraft Design (BEng) Description 3 years spent studying and learning about the design and production of marine vessels. Topics covered included: structural analysis, mechanical engineering, production philosophies and naval architecture of several different styles of vessels. There was a strong emphasis on the use of CAD programs, and I have reached a high level of competency in Rhino, AutoCAD and Maxsurf Enterprise Design Package. I also studied Solidworks and I have a basic understanding of the working principles of this program.

Clear communication and leadership are required in this position, as I was working as part of a team. The task set by the team leader was to ensure that the safety of the customers was of the upmost importance.

Dates May 2015 – July 2015 Organisation Adastra Pub Company LTD (The Waterfront, Southampton) Function Bar Staff and Sous Chef Description This job included running the kitchen as an understudy to the head chef and carrying out all the appropriate health, hygiene and safety checks. Food was freshly produced, and aesthetics of the plate as well as customer satisfaction were of the highest importance. Bar work was carried out when there was a special function such as a wedding or a football match on.
Dates June 2013 – January 2015 Organisation Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers (Muirfield Golf Club) Function Front of House, Bar, Kitchen and Dining Room Assistant Description Assisting in the kitchens with food preparation, in the dining room with service and on the bar with customer service (serving drinks and also dealing with incoming stock orders). Included working during the 2013 British Golf Open Championship. Latterly, providing cover for the Front of House manager, meeting and greeting the guests and members to the golf club during business hours. I also made sure that the operation of the bar and the kitchen complied with the high standards set by the club.

In my free time I enjoy watching and playing sport. I have a handicap of 9 in golf and have represented my Club (Cragielaw GC) and School (Loretto) at junior national level. I also enjoy playing football and enjoy following all European leagues. I have also represented Loretto and Solent in the schools respective 1st teams for rugby. I have been a student member of the Royal Institute of Naval Architects since October 2011.
