The Japanese and US governments • Want to cover up the last pristine coral ree f in Japan (in Henoko Bay) with billions of t ons of cement (the equivalent of 17 Tokyo Domes!) • The ecosystem of Henoko Bay will perish f or cement---cement that will be garbage!! • Without being covered up with cement, th is precious ecosystem could give people many years of fish and seaweed!
The long term… In the long run, the better choice is to leav e Henoko Bay as it is now and protect it. The cement and oil economy has a limited l ifespan (very limited). The oil production in the US and elsewhere declines recently as oil prices have plunged. It would be better to decide a solar energy future where oceans and reefs are protecte d resources.
The future generations… • Will be needing the sun-generated reso urces such as the nature of Henoko Bay. • Billions of tons of cement will be a huge burden for these future people. • The dugongs and coral need protection.
Dugongs are endangered!! Military bases are not (there are plenty of them everywhere!)
